A common question asked by customers when buying a water ionizer filter is “What is the difference between the Fluoridated vs. non-Fluoridated water?”
If you don’t have fluoride in your home tap water, save yourself the annual cost of the more expensive filter and choose the non-fluoridated option. If you do have fluoride in your tap water, choose the fluoridated option. It’s simple to find out if your tap water is fluoridated – contact your water supplier or go to their website and they will have an Annual Water Quality report available. If you open it and see fluoride, it’s in your water. If you don’t see it, it’s not in your water.
What is the difference between the fluoridated vs. the non-fluoridated option?
It’s first important to know which water ionizers have the fluoridated or non-fluoridated filtration options: only the Athena Water Ionizer, Vesta GL Water Ionizer and the UltraDelphi Water Ionizer.

Water Ionizer Internal Fluoride Arsenic Shield
First, let’s explore what comes with the Fluoridated option. For the Athena and Vesta water ionizers, you will receive an UltraWater Filter and an internal Fluoride-Arsenic Filter which is placed on the left side (facing the water ionizer).
The UltraWater Filter will go in place of the BioStone Filter.
For the UltraDelphi water ionizer, you will receive an External Fluoride-Arsenic Filter & Housing as well as an UltraWater Filter. The Fluoride-Arsenic Filter will be used outside of your UltraDelphi water ionizer and the UltraWater Filter will be used in place of the BioStone Filter.
For the Non-Fluoridated option, in the case of the Athena and Vesta water ionizers, you will receive an UltraWater Filter and a Sediment Filter (placed on the left side facing the water ionizer).
For the UltraDelphi water ionizer, you will receive an External Sediment Filter & Housing as well as an UltraWater Filter. The Sediment Filter will be used outside of your UltraDelphi ionizer and the UltraWater Filter will be used in place of the BioStone Filter.
Internal UltraWater Filter of Your Water Ionizer
Please note that the UltraWater and Fluoride-Arsenic filters will be added to the shipping box. Customers will need to remove the factory BioStone that comes with the water ionizer and install the new UltraWater filter.
If you chose the Fluoridated option, you will need to remove the Sediment Filter from the left side of either your Vesta water ionizer or Athena ionizer and replace it with the Fluoride Arsenic Shield.
We suggest saving your factory filters in a cool, dry place and keeping them on hand as a back-up in case of emergency. There can on rare occasions be a flush of sediment or other materials into water supplies that will ruin filters instantly. Having a spare filter is always a good idea!
