Much is known about the alkalinity of alkaline water, the pH. But few have any knowledge whatsoever about the top reason why you should drink ionized alkaline water. It is also considered healthy antioxidant water.
But before we explain what that means, we should briefly address the fact that most drinking waters are not 100% healthy.
- Distilled water for example, while void of contaminants, when consumed is an extractor that depletes your body of vital minerals. What’s worse is that distilled water is slightly acidic.
- Purified water? It means just that, some contaminants are diminished from it, but so are the essential minerals your body needs to effectively hydrate your cells.
- Filtered water, many have this kind of filtration at home, such as Reverse Osmosis. Not all filtered waters are created equal. Some just add taste by masking the chlorine flavor, but they leave arsenic, fluoride and other toxins in the drinking water.
- Bottled water, most Americans consume bottled waters of different kinds thinking it’s the best water to drink. We beg to differ because it’s not regulated by the EPA. We drink it strictly on faith that it’s clean and healthy. Read More on Bottled Water…
Finally, there’s Ionized alkaline Water. UltraWater means that the drinking water has been so well filtered that toxins, contaminants, pharmaceutical waste, VOC’s, arsenic, fluoride, chlorine, etc. are scientifically non detectable. Furthermore, UltraWater filtration is so smart and superior, that the essential minerals, magnesium, calcium and potassium are left intact in the drinking water. What’s more, it also produces a higher pH water.
But what really makes alkaline ionized UltraWater so much healthier to drink, is its oxidation reduction potential (ORP) benefit. This attribute literally makes water an antioxidant.
We must learn what this is, because every time you drink it you fight free radicals in your body, you hydrate yourself at a cellular level, you detox your body naturally of acid waste, and energize your cells.
All foods and drinks have an oxidation reduction potential (ORP). Now let’s learn about what ORP is.
How ORP is Measured in Food and Drink
ORP – Oxidation Reduction Potential is basically a measure of the molecular charge, that shows the level at which a food or drink has the ability to oxidize or to reduce oxidation in your body. So in essence, it determines what’s an oxidant or an anti-oxidant.
In scientific terms ORP is measured in Mv (millivolts). A positive ORP charge (+ Mv) indicates that the substance is an oxidant. The higher the positive charge the stronger the oxidation.
Think of oxidation as rust on metal or decay in foods, like the browning of a cut apple. Oxidation is a natural process that happens to everyone. As you age, your body tissues suffer from oxidative stress due to the process of oxidation. Oxidation occurs when molecules within your body lose electrons to electrically-charged molecules of oxygen in your blood stream. These electrically charged oxygen molecules are called “free radicals,” and they have the potential to cause damage to cellular DNA. Over time, the damage can become irreversible and lead to disease.

A negative ORP (- mV) indicates the ability to donate electrons, the higher the negative charge, the greater the ability to provide electrons. At this level a food or drink has the ability to be an antioxidant, which is healthier for your body.
Free radicals in your body are oxidants and their ability to oxidize cells is eliminated or reduced by the addition of electrons from foods or drinks with a negative ORP. Again, substances with a high negative ORP are anti-oxidants.
Here are some examples:
Castor oil has an oxidation reduction potential of -200 mV
Mashed potatoes have an ORP of +56.3 mV
Tomato and hamburger casserole, an ORP of +44.3 mV
Ionized Alkaline Water has an ORP ranging from -275 mV to -850 mV. That makes it a Super-AntiOxidant. Possibly the healthiest water you can drink.
Definition of ORP: The higher the negative ORP of a food or drink, the greater potential it has to help you age in a healthy way, and that at a the cellular level of your body.
Fresh squeezed raw orange juice has an ORP of about -250 mV.
All fresh squeezed vegetables and fruit juices and vegetables have a negative ORP, some lower than others. Therefore, they are considered anti-oxidants because they reduce the potential for oxidation in your body. However, if these juices are heated above 118 F, pasteurized or otherwise processed, the negative ORP antioxidant property is diminished. In fact, much of its rejuvenation properties have been removed and now the food has been transformed into mere substance that provides the body only with calories, and almost no nutrition to help alkalize it. So raw fruits and vegetables are the way to go.
None of the types of drinking waters: distilled, filtered, purified, and bottled water have the antioxidant power that alkaline water provides.
ORP of Tap Water
Tap water has an ORP between +20 to +500 Mv (depending on your source water). This makes regular tap water an oxidant to your body. So while it fills your stomach with fluid, it has lost its power to hydrate at cellular levels and cleanse the body from the acidic waste of the American diet. The ORP of Distilled, Reverse Osmosis are also oxidizing.
ORP of Bottle Water and Sodas
In some cases the ORP of bottled water has been measured as high as +600 mV. By the way, 48% of bottled water is nothing more than filtered tap water. Sodas are even worse. If you haven’t already done so, stop drinking sodas. Not only are they extremely oxidizing but also highly acidic which is a big contributing factor in sickness and weight gain.
Many people are interested in buying bottled alkaline water. We advise against it. Here’s why: It’s no longer considered an antioxidant water after as little as 18 hours. The antioxidant potential last approximately 18-24 hours. So you can’t store it. It’s best to drink it as soon as it’s generated from your alkaline water ionizer. Buying bottled alkaline water can be rather expensive, especially if you want it everyday. Read more ‘Should You Buy Bottled Alkaline Water’.
The wiser cost-effective thing to do is to own your own water ionizer, make the antioxidant alkaline water yourself and put it in a BPA-free bottle to drink as you go about your daily activities.
So the top benefit of ionized alkaline water is its antioxidant power–It Is AntiOxidant Water. The antioxidant power of a food or drink offers many health benefits, and have been proven as a possible preventative of diseases, ranging from cancer to Alzheimer’s. Research suggests that antioxidant potential can be effective in preventing a number of age-related diseases.
Ionized Alkaline Water is a more powerful antioxidant than green tea and orange juice. Adding this antioxidant water to your daily regimen will make you feel more energized and healthier. Or make your tea with it for greater health benefits.
